Town Hall Visit

Following on from a tour of the Town Hall, our School Council was lucky enough to hold a full meeting in Eastbourne Town Hall's Court Room. Councillor Tutt, who had kindly invited the School Council to visit the Town Hall, hosted our visit, along with fellow councillor Rebecca Whippy and the Mayor's assistant, who regaled us with stories from Eastbourne's past. We were shown the very depths of the building where the oldest records were kept, the original and impressive Council Chamber and the Mayor's office. The children were captivated by the Mayor's mace, an impressive solid silver, gold plated ceremonial weapon, and enjoyed guessing the true worth of the gold chains of office! Our meeting in the converted Court Room discussed local conservation, a school election campaign, the provision of extra sporting equipment and wet play games for the classroom. There was full and enthusiastic student participation. Ideas were discussed and decisions made, and all in the place where our local leaders have historically led our town! Langney School Council returned to school with new found inspiration, raised aspirations and with a new determination to influence things for the good in our school.
